Hailing from Hillsboro, OR, where he was born and raised, Douglas Peterson has focused his twenty-year family law practice on serving clients in Washington County and the greater Portland Metro Area. He is almost entirely devoted to family law, including divorce, spousal and child support, child custody and parenting time, post-divorce modifications of support, custody and parenting time, and enforcement of divorce judgments. Doug’s practice also includes guardianships, conservatorships, wills and trusts, and probate.

At the core of Doug’s practice is an honest and direct approach to serving his clients and their best interests. He is most proud of his ability to efficiently and effectively handle complex divorce cases at a great financial value to his clients. Doug finds it to be truly gratifying when clients are empowered to take control of their own finances, and he works to ensure his clients are well-informed and that they understand the risks associated with every decision. Delivering clarity so clients are better able to make objective decisions without emotions clouding their view is paramount.

Doug is extremely familiar with the compensation structure and retirement benefits of the area’s high-tech employers, and the financial issues associated with divorce that face the employee’s family. He has spoken at Oregon continuing legal education conferences on this matter and regularly consults with other attorneys on these topics. Doug’s deep understanding and experience in complex high-asset cases and specialized knowledge in compensation packages enable him to clearly see and advise his clients early on potential problems or hidden debt or tax consequences.

While Doug is also experienced in court and representing his clients in litigation cases, only a small number of cases actually go to trial. More often than not, he is able to help his clients resolve their cases outside of court through cooperation and collaboration.

When he is not practicing law, Doug spends time with his family and the many activities his children enjoy. An avid cyclist, he finds time to ride when the weather is nice and collects and restores old bicycles when it is not.
